The following Privacy Policy describes our efforts to
protect your privacy and security on this Website.
Scope of the Privacy Policy
South Asians for Obama (SAFO) takes your privacy
seriously. This Privacy Policy applies to personal information that we collect
when you visit this Website, and describes how we collect, use, disclose,
protect and provide you with access to that information. If you do not agree
to this Privacy Policy, please do not use this Website.
Collection and Disclosure of Personal Information
SAFO promotes political activism within our community.
In addition, the Federal Election Commission requires us to collect certain
information from donors to Obama for America. For these reasons, we collect and
use some information that can be directly associated with a specific person.
This information includes name, address, email address and contribution amount.
SAFO collects information, including name, address and email
address, from individuals who register on our site. We use this information to
understand more about our online visitors and to deliver targeted content to
our newsletter subscribers. For example, we periodically provide information
via email regarding political events, resources and issues.
We use your email address and other personal
information to communicate with you in connection with your use of this Website.
We also use this information to respond to your questions, comments and
requests, and to solicit information and feedback from you.
It is our general policy not to disclose your personal
information to unrelated third parties. However, we may make personal
information available to the Obama campaign, as well as other organizations,
candidates or parties with similar political viewpoints and objectives. We may
share basic contact information with these other entities, which helps elect
similarly minded candidates.
Except as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy,
SAFO will not disclose personally identifiable information to any third party
unless we believe that disclosure is necessary: (1) to comply with legal
process, or to establish or protect our legal rights or defend against legal
claims; (2) to protect the safety of members of the public and users of
this Website; and (3) when we believe it is necessary to take action
regarding any violation of the law or to protect the safety of another person. SAFO may share aggregated information, which does not contain any personally
identifiable information, with third parties.
Collection of Other Information
SAFO may also collect information about your computer
(including Internet connection, IP address, operating system and web browser
type) when you visit the Website. We may use cookies and other technologies to
allow us to remember information about your visits to the Website. Cookies are
small text files stored on a user’s computer that allow us to recognize your
browser and personalize your experience on the Website. We may also use various
technical methods to tell us which parts of the Website users have visited and
to measure and improve the overall effectiveness of the Website.
You can choose not to enable cookies by adjusting your
web browser options. However, please note that, if you do so, your ability to
use some areas of the Website may be limited.
User Content in Public Areas
Some sections of this Website are public areas where
users may post comments and other information. Personal information that is
voluntarily posted or transmitted in such areas can be collected and accessed
by the public and can be used by others to send you unsolicited
communications. SAFO cannot be responsible for any personal information that
may be contained in such postings or transmissions.
Privacy of our Email Lists
SAFO maintains email lists to keep interested, eligible
individuals informed about relevant political events, resources and issues. We
configure our list server software to refuse to divulge the email addresses of
our list subscribers to anyone other than those whom we authorize. However, we
are not the author of this software, and we are not responsible for any
failures in the software to preserve subscriber anonymity.
Subscribers to our email Newsletter may terminate their
subscriptions via a link at the bottom of each email sent from SAFO.
Children’s Privacy
This Website is a general audience site, and we do not
knowingly collect information about children under the age of thirteen (13).
Our Website is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children
under age 13. Should a child whom we know to be under age 13 make known to us
his or her personal information, we will use that information only to respond
directly to that child to inform him or her that we must have parental consent
before receiving his or her personal information. If you want to notify us of
our receipt of personal information by children under age 13, please do so by
emailing us at safo2008@gmail.com.
